The Geauga County Public Library Board of Trustees approved the recommendation of the selection committee to engage the services of Donley’s as our Construction Manager at Risk for all building renovations and the construction of the two new buildings in Bainbridge and Thompson. At least four of the project leaders on the Donley’s team live in Geauga County and are our neighbors.
The next steps involve the design team from CBLH and Perkins + Will working side by side with the Donley’s team and with GCPL folks to plan for the best facilities to match the current and future needs of the community and staff. The design phase for the new buildings will last roughly one year, with the construction lasting about another year. New buildings are expected to be complete in 2020. The renovations should proceed quickly and are expected to be complete before the end of 2019.
These are exciting times, and people are asking many questions about how the renovations and new construction projects will impact how they use their libraries. We value transparent communication, and will keep citizens updated with current answers via this page as well as the director’s blog and our social media channels.
We held the first round of community conversations engaging the local communities for feedback on the type of programming they would like to see in these future buildings. Additional meetings have been scheduled for mid-July, and we are planning on another round of conversations in late summer or early fall.
As always, if you have any questions do not hesitate to send them my way.
