Case Closed by Gosho Aoyama

Raise your hand if you like old school whodunnits! If you like detectives like Sherlock Holmes that reveal the suspect and method at the end of each case, you’ll like Case Closed.

Case Closed follows Jimmy Kudo, a teenage detective who has a great track record for solving crime…until he follows the wrong criminals and gets poisoned. The poison, rather than killing him, turns back the hands of time and leaves our teen detective stuck in the body of a first grader. Left with the mystery of how to return to his actual age and take down the criminal organization that poisoned him, Jimmy takes on the new identity of Conan Edogawa; a six year old with a habit of ending up right in the middle of all sorts of mysteries and murders. With the help of an inventor friend, a washed up detective, and his crush, Conan solves one mystery at a time on his way to solving the case of his own poisoning.

Case Closed is sort of a mystery of the week format with a larger overarching plot that picks up every few cases. You don’t have to worry about running out of cases to read with this series; Case Closed is one of the longest running detective manga in Japan with over 900 chapters and counting to keep you reading for a long time to come.

Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hattori

Haruhi Fujioka has finally gotten into a prestigious school thanks to a scholarship program, and there’s nothing she wants more than to pursue her school life in peace. Unfortunately while looking for a study room, Haruhi stumbles on the school’s host club and manages to break an expensive vase in the process. Now until her debt is paid off she has to work with the eccentric group of young men who make up the club…as a male host.

Ouran is a frolicking comedy that frequently borders on the absurd. Playing with manga tropes and stereotypes, and gender-bending silliness, Ouran is a great read to get away for a bit and laugh at what ridiculousness the host club has cooked up next.
